And We Back

And we back, and we back, and we back, and we back

It's season 3, it's 2018, it's Pradley Family Football

Now that we've all spent a long offseason contemplating my amazing championship victory (which I completely forgot to write commentary about) it's time to get ready for our next season. We've got a few new faces in the league this year, as well as one returning from 2015, so this post will serve to introduce them to the rules, give updates on what we're (maybe) changing, and sort  out draft dates.

If you don't read anything else in this post, skip to the part about draft dates.

!!DRAFT!! (Read this part)

The season is rapidly approaching, and begins on September 6th. That means we basically have 2.5 weeks to draft, but I'm unavailable for a decent part of it. Below are the 4 best dates to make this work (I think). Let me know which ones work or don't work for you. You can comment on this post, email, text me, or send smoke signals. Just send something so you don't get stuck with a day you can't draft.
  • Wednesday August 22nd
  • Thursday August 23rd
  • Monday September 3rd
  • Wednesday September 5th
Draft order (Randomly Chosen via Random.org)
  1. Michael Talley
  2. Steven Koo
  3. Barbara Wadley
  4. Nick Manuszak
  5. Brian Thornhill
  6. Michael Pressley
  7. Colton Fisher
  8. Zane Pressley
  9. Reese Wadley
  10. Greg Wadley

If you're in the Austin area, come draft with us. We'll have food and drinks and yell at each other when our favorite players get taken. Text me for my address if you need it.

2 more things:

  • People told me last year that the draft timers were too short and they had trouble making decisions. They'll be longer this time
  • The draft room opens 15 minutes before it starts, get there early. Multiple people auto drafted their first round pick last year because they didn't load in time.

General Rules (for new members):

  • Each roster has 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 1 DEF, 1 Kicker, and 1 FLEX position which can be a RB, WR, or TE. There are 6 bench spots. This is all pretty normal but if you're used to playing in 3 WR leagues be prepared for that.
  • Decimal Scoring
  • Trades have the shortest possible 1 day processing period. There's no league veto so if you think 2 players are colluding to intentionally make one team better at the cost of the other, let me know. This has never happened in our history, but I'm putting this out there anyway.
  • 6 teams make playoffs, and the top 2 get a bye week. Playoffs are weeks 14-16 of the NFL season
  • In the case of tied records, overall season scoring determines standards
  • Waivers are a continual rolling list. What this means is that if you put a claim in for a player before Tuesday night /Wednesday morning, and you have the highest waiver claim for that player, you will get him. When your waiver is used, you drop to the back of the line. This is consistent over the season, so if you have waiver #1 or #2 and decide not to use it, it can be saved until you feel like spending it. Picking up free agents Wednesday-Saturday does not effect this.
  • The draft is a snake draft. That means we go from the first to last team, then reverse and go last to first. So in a 10 team draft, team 1 gets picks 1 and 20, team 10 gets picks 10 and 11. ect.
  • If you keep your standard team name I will make fun of you for it in these commentaries. It's just boring. Pick a fun name.

Potential New Rules

  • 0.5 PPR : This is a very popular rule in FF, but not one we have played with before. In this setting, players score half a point for each reception/catch they make in a game. This helps to balance out the WRs against the much more dominant RBs. It shouldn't change draft ranking much because so many Yahoo leagues use it already.
    • Feedback: if you hate this, let me know. If you like it, you can tell me that too. If no one says anything I'll probably institute the rule.
  • FAAB Waivers: A bit less common, FAAB stands for Free Agent Auction Bidding. It would replace the waiver system we currently have with one where we each start with fake money, and bid on players. You put in a single bid, and if you're the highest bidder, you win. You pay whatever you bid no matter what the other offers were. There's no back and forth ebay style bidding. The money you get is for the whole season.
    • Pros: You don't get stuck by having a low waiver priority at a bad time. If there's a guy you really want, you can get him.
    • Cons: It's a new system and it's more complicated
    • Feedback: Let me know what you think of this. If I don't hear anything we'll stick with the current system.

Kickoff 2019

Football Season is Upon us.. Man, that feels really nice to type. We're just weeks away from finding out Are the browns actually good now? Will the entire Cowboys offense hold out for better contracts? Can Antonio Brown recover from his frostbitten feet (seriously?) Who's going to dominate our draft only to watch their team fall apart in the final weeks of the season? There are two important parts to this post, and both of them require your participation; draft dates and rule changes. If nothing else, please send me your draft dates ASAP Draft Dates In order to avoid drafting players who get injured in the preseason, I've set the earliest date for this poll after Preseason Week 2. Check all the dates you're available, or at least X out the days you definitely can't make it. VOTE HERE Potential Rule Changes Alright, now for the rules. First, I want to note that we don't have to change anything from last year, but I always like ...

Week 13: Playoffs, Survivor Champion

A rare image of that one time the Jags were actually good Playoffs are here! The final week of the regular season included a bit of Chaos as Goofy Gang was able to claw his way into 6th place, while NB Power pushed into a 1st round bye. This next week, there are only 2 matchups because all of our losers bracket teams are on bye, as well as our league leaders. Survivor The winner of our very first survivor challenge has been crowned! Congrats Eagle Powers. The key to this game was consistency, and Eagle Powers has been consistently crushing it ever since this challenge started in week 5. With an average score of 139 and low of 113 during that period, this team has cruised to 4 eliminations (double that of the next best team) on the backs of Gurley, Luck, and Davante Adams, as well as insane waiver pickups in Conner, Chubb and Kerryon. How they're only 7-6 in the actual standings is the greater mystery. Survivor Standings : Eagle Powers: 132 Points this week ⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️ ...

Commish Commentary Week 9: Close Calls

Sometimes, Fantasy Football is about winning the draft, or getting that breakout player on waivers. Like drafting Hunt in the 7th or getting Wentz for free. Other times, it's about picking the right players to start and which ones to sit. Like when Amari Cooper puts up 40 points on your bench as you lose by 5. Sometimes though, it's just dumb luck. There were two teams this week that were ~1 point away from winning their matchup and moving into playoff position only to lose at the last possible second. 1 dropped pass that gets caught, one field-goal that goes in instead of bouncing off the upright. So close, but not quite close enough. Recaps! Travis Kelce Chunky Salsa (85) > 🤓🖒🏈 (83.24) In the first of our nail-biters, 🤓🖒🏈 took a lead Sunday with good games from Ajayi and McCaffrey, only for Chunky Salsa to be saved on Monday night by a Kelce touchdown. Salsa also got a pretty good game out of Tyrod and Hopkins, which helped gloss over an abysmal 8 carr...
